Education System essays Describe the dumbing down of the nations educational system. Our nation views all situations as a competition and, in some cases, goes to extremely deceitful lengths to protect the possibility of failure. All tasks assigned to Americans are assumed to be easy and conducted with concurring enthusiasm; however, when it becomes arduous, frustration overcomes us and we look for the first available quick-fix. Now that the task was completed-with the minimal amount of effort-we sit back and relax, because we are at ease with our accomplishment, and our result becomes the standard. This course of action appears prevalent in all American endeavors, especially in our national education system. Americas educational system began like all of the other American endeavors, assumed to be easy, and conducted with simple enthusiasm. Formal education in America did not really begin until the end of The Great Depression (1939) and was a direct result of the New Deal legislation of President Franklin D. Roosevelt (1933-1945). Early educators of the system followed the principles of strict classroom discipline and high performance standards, which had a direct reflection on the youth of that early generation. Early students were well mannered and able to contribute a lot to the nation when they entered the workforce. Nevertheless, as the times changed-technologically and socially-the standards and results started to fall, causing much frustration among the system facilitators. In turn, the facilitators looked for that quick fix and they found it in the souls of the American citizens. Their fix was not a fix at all; instead, an illusion masking the failure of the system. Intention Plus Action Will Get Your Resolutions Fulfilled ââ¬Å"Intentionâ⬠is a big buzzword nowadays. In my leadership group, one woman in particular uses the word in almost every one of her communications. Sometimes I find myself responding: ââ¬Å"I get your intention. And what ACTION are you going to take on that intention?â⬠Intention is important and can be a huge motivator. But without action to follow it up, intention is just a nice thought. Telling my friend I intend to spend more time with her this year is actually hurtful if I donââ¬â¢t do it. Telling myself I intend to lose 5 pounds wonââ¬â¢t get me far if I eat a box of cookies every day. As entrepreneur and author John Maxwell says in a recent interview about his book Intentional Living: Choosing a Life That Matters, ââ¬Å"No one has ever been successful with good intentions alone. There has to be action.â⬠I set out in 2015 with an intention to accomplish many things- my new yearââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"Ressaylutions.â⬠Hereââ¬â¢s the list and how I did: Roll out a new ââ¬Å"responsiveâ⬠(mobile-friendly) website.â⬠¨ Goal achieved! TheEssayExpert.com has launched in its new form and is mobile-friendly! I have a new home page as well which launched just last week and is almost the way I want it! Implement Infusionsoft.â⬠¨ Goal achieved. My e-lists are now on Infusionsoft, as are our client communication and tracking system. Thank you to my new Infusionsoft virtual assistant, Anastasia Barre, who is just fixed our affiliate program and unsubscribe process! Serve 250 clients.â⬠¨ Total clients for 2015 was 141, in part due to changes in the number of clients coming to me through my e-book. I also had some personal challenges that slowed things down over the summer and fall, but business picked back up nicely at the end of the year. Iââ¬â¢m keeping this goal for 2016. Publish a print version of How to Write a KILLER LinkedIn Profile.â⬠¨ Done! Yay! Next step is to market the book. Implement a robust referral program. This project has been on hold with all the activity around Infusionsoft and my website, but people who refer paying clients to The Essay Expert can expect a gift from us! And Iââ¬â¢m going to look at making the program more consistent in 2016. Increase college essay / personal statement portion of my business to 25% of business. â⬠¨I uppedà my number of admissions consulting clients from last year, but still have not reached this goal. I realized that one thing stopping me was that I did not feel I had a good consultant in place to serve these clients. Recently I did bring on a consultant, a Yale alumna who is perfect for working with college applicants, so I feel more confident in marketing this service! I have a few resume writers sending me clients and I just got contacted by someone in China who might also be a source of referrals. I will continue to work on this one! Create more internal systems/guidelines. I have made progress in this area, adding and clarifying items in my agreements with my writers and also revamping some of the terms of service for clients. This is an ongoing project and will never end! Itââ¬â¢s clear that the resolutions where I made the most progress were the ones where I took the most action. Several new medicines have been designed for specific diseases. And they are working efficiently, but the importance of prevention can never be denied. In some cases prevention is the only solution and also prevention is a lot easier than the medical surgeries offered. Prevention is not only necessary to safeguard our body from further diseases but it is also very necessary in the hospital environment to save the patients from any type of medical emergency. Therefore it is the responsibility of an individual, a nurse and a doctor to block the path of the undesired medical emergencies by preventing the medical errors. Medical Errors Are Nurses Responsibilities Since nurses are intimately involved in the health care delivery and are ultimately r esponsible in acute phases of the disease, it is important for nurses to understand the factors contributing to errors for effective prevention error (Lyer & Aiken, 2001, p.171). Improving safety at the point of care is the most important aspect of error prevention. Incorrect drug calculations, lack of individual knowledge and failure to follow established protocol, time pressures, fatigue, understaffing, inexperience, design deficiencies and inadequate equipments create opportunities for error (Carlton and Blegen, 2006, p. 25). A medical error is the type of error that occurs while offering medical services to a patient. ââ¬Å"It can be defined as the error rose due to the wrongfully taken medical step or the incorrect treatment offered to the personal error, which can further result in medical emergency.â⬠(Bootman, 2006, p. 25).There are many types of the medical errors. Nurses and Medical Error A lot of medical errors occurred in hospital by hands of the nurses. These erro rs are sometimes minor and sometimes major. Major errors can lead to a medical emergency or even death. Minor errors can be corrected by giving anti dote or other immediate medical treatment. On the one hand when nurses are the reason behind some of the major medical errors, at the same time they have the ability to prevent the same errors. A special type of training is given to nurses to ensure the medical safety of the patients and safeguard them from any emergency by any mean (Cima, 2007, p. 35). Why are the Nurses behind Most of the Medical Errors? After doctor, nurse is the only responsible body in the hospital and she should ensure the patientsââ¬â¢ safety by any mean. This is caused by their inability to decide on the major fields of study that they are interested in to broaden their education. This affects their education in second ary or post-secondary education. Behaviors common with the deaf children includes the inability of students to concentrate in class. Students also have a low level of preparation in the classroom for the academic programs. When completely dissatisfied, they tend to cause disruptions in class. This can be by making too much noise, or even sleeping during class period. Deaf students also have a tendency to rely on third party students to provide them with important information. This behavior affects their performance both academically and socially. There are a number of changes or adaptive mechanisms that can be put in place in my class to accommodate these students. One of the basic support services to include should be the tutoring service. Secondly, the deaf student should have a special interpreter to enable them understand important concepts in class. The deaf students who suffer complete hearing should be given an interpreter who should also act as their mentor. This will also b oost their morale and social cohesion in the class. Thirdly, these students in my class should be given or provided with academic advising services that will help them make the right career choice in life. This will play a major role in ensuring that their future is secured. Access and support services should also be provided to them to ensure that they are not stigmatized for being different to others in life. Stigmatization can be done by the provision of mentors in life. Real time captioning should also be provided. Captioning can be done through articulate use of visual aids such as projector to show images where it should be left for enough time for the students to understand the meaning. Classroom participation and involvement should also be encouraged. Participation will also enable the teacher to identify the areas in which the student has problems. Some social considerations need to be made in order for the deaf students to feel socially considered. This can be done by enco uraging participation in classroom activities as well as extra and co-curricular activities. They should also be involved in decisions making in the class since they are members of that class. Members of the class should also be taught how to relate with deaf students. Spain. I sent David to Spain. The commander's words stung. ââ¬Å"David's in Spain?â⬠Susan was incredulous. ââ¬Å"You sent him to Spain?â⬠Her tone turned angry. ââ¬Å"Why?â⬠Strathmore looked dumbfounded. He was apparently not accustomed to being yelled at, even by his head cryptographer. He gave Susan a confused look. She was flexed like a mother tiger defending her cub. ââ¬Å"Susan,â⬠he said. ââ¬Å"You spoke to him, didn't you? David did explain?â⬠She was too shocked to speak. Spain? That's why David postponed our Stone Manor trip? ââ¬Å"I sent a car for him this morning. He said he was going to call you before he left. I'm sorry. I thought-ââ¬Å" ââ¬Å"Why would you send David to Spain?â⬠Strathmore paused and gave her an obvious look. ââ¬Å"To get the other pass-key.â⬠ââ¬Å"What other pass-key?â⬠ââ¬Å"Tankado's copy.â⬠Susan was lost. ââ¬Å"What are you talking about?â⬠Strathmore sighed. ââ¬Å"Tankado surely would have had a copy of the pass-key on him when he died. I sure as hell didn't want it floating around the Seville morgue.â⬠ââ¬Å"So you sent David Becker?â⬠Susan was beyond shock. Nothing was making sense. ââ¬Å"David doesn't even work for you!â⬠Strathmore looked startled. No one ever spoke to the deputy director of the NSA that way. ââ¬Å"Susan,â⬠he said, keeping his cool, ââ¬Å"that's the point. I needed-ââ¬Å" The tiger lashed out. ââ¬Å"You've got twenty thousand employees at your command! What gives you the right to send my fiance?â⬠ââ¬Å"I needed a civilian courier, someone totally removed from government. If I went through regular channels and someone caught wind-ââ¬Å" ââ¬Å"And David Becker is the only civilian you know?â⬠ââ¬Å"No! David Becker is not the only civilian I know! But at six this morning, things were happening quickly! David speaks the language, he's smart, I trust him, and I thought I'd do him a favor!â⬠ââ¬Å"A favor?â⬠Susan sputtered. ââ¬Å"Sending him to Spain is a favor?â⬠ââ¬Å"Yes! I'm paying him ten thousand for one day's work. He'll pick up Tankado's belongings, and he'll fly home. That's a favor!â⬠Susan fell silent. She understood. It was all about money. Her thoughts wheeled back five months to the night the president of Georgetown University had offered David a promotion to the language department chair. The president had warned him that his teaching hours would be cut back and that there would be increased paperwork, but there was also a substantial raise in salary. Susan had wanted to cry out David, don't do it! You'll be miserable. We have plenty of money-who cares which one of us earns it? But it was not her place. In the end, she stood by his decision to accept. As they fell asleep that night, Susan tried to be happy for him, but something inside kept telling her it would be a disaster. She'd been right-but she'd never counted on being so right. ââ¬Å"You paid him ten thousand dollars?â⬠she demanded. ââ¬Å"That's a dirty trick!â⬠Strathmore was fuming now. ââ¬Å"Trick? It wasn't any goddamn trick! I didn't even tell him about the money. I asked him as a personal favor. He agreed to go.â⬠ââ¬Å"Of course he agreed! You're my boss! You're the deputy director of the NSA! He couldn't say no!â⬠ââ¬Å"You're right,â⬠Strathmore snapped. ââ¬Å"Which is why I called him. I didn't have the luxury of-ââ¬Å" ââ¬Å"Does the director know you sent a civilian?â⬠ââ¬Å"Susan,â⬠Strathmore said, his patience obviously wearing thin, ââ¬Å"the director is not involved. He knows nothing about this.â⬠Susan stared at Strathmore in disbelief. It was as if she no longer knew the man she was talking to. He had sent her fiance-a teacher-on an NSA mission and then failed to notify the director about the biggest crisis in the history of the organization. ââ¬Å"Leland Fontaine hasn't been notified?â⬠Strathmore had reached the end of his rope. He exploded. ââ¬Å"Susan, now listen here! I called you in here because I need an ally, not an inquiry! I've had one hell of morning. I downloaded Tankado's file last night and sat here by the output printer for hours praying TRANSLTR could break it. At dawn I swallowed my pride and dialed the director-and let me tell you, that was a conversation I was really looking forward to. Good morning, sir. I'm sorry to wake you. Why am I calling? I just found out TRANSLTR is obsolete. It's because of an algorithm my entire top-dollar Crypto team couldn't come close to writing!â⬠Strathmore slammed his fist on the desk. Susan stood frozen. She didn't make a sound. In ten years, she had seen Strathmore lose his cool only a handful of times, and never once with her. Ten seconds later neither one of them had spoken. Finally Strathmore sat back down, and Susan could hear his breathing slowing to normal. When he finally spoke, his voice was eerily calm and controlled. ââ¬Å"Unfortunately,â⬠Strathmore said quietly, ââ¬Å"it turns out the director is in South America meeting with the President of Colombia. Because there's absolutely nothing he could do from down there, I had two options-request he cut his meeting short and return, or handle this myself.â⬠There was along silence. Strathmore finally looked up, and his tired eyes met Susan's. His expression softened immediately. ââ¬Å"Susan, I'm sorry. I'm exhausted. This is a nightmare come true. I know you're upset about David. I didn't mean for you to find out this way. I thought you knew.â⬠Susan felt a wave of guilt. ââ¬Å"I overreacted. I'm sorry. David is a good choice.â⬠Strathmore nodded absently. ââ¬Å"He'll be back tonight.â⬠Susan thought about everything the commander was going through-the pressure of overseeing TRANSLTR, the endless hours and meetings. It was rumored his wife of thirty years was leaving him. Then on top of it, there was Digital Fortress-the biggest intelligence threat in the history of the NSA, and the poor guy was flying solo. No wonder he looked about to crack. ââ¬Å"Considering the circumstances,â⬠Susan said, ââ¬Å"I think you should probably call the director.â⬠Strathmore shook his head, a bead of sweat dripping on his desk. ââ¬Å"I'm not about to compromise the director's safety or risk a leak by contacting him about a major crisis he can do nothing about.â⬠Susan knew he was right. Even in moments like these, Strathmore was clear-headed. ââ¬Å"Have you considered calling the President?â⬠Strathmore nodded. ââ¬Å"Yes. I've decided against it.â⬠Susan had figured as much. Senior NSA officials had the right to handle verifiable intelligence emergencies without executive knowledge. The NSA was the only U.S. intelligence organization that enjoyed total immunity from federal accountability of any sort. Strathmore often availed himself of this right; he preferred to work his magic in isolation. ââ¬Å"Commander,â⬠she argued, ââ¬Å"this is too big to be handled alone. You've got to let somebody else in on it.â⬠ââ¬Å"Susan, the existence of Digital Fortress has major implications for the future of this organization. I have no intention of informing the President behind the director's back. We have a crisis, and I'm handling it.â⬠He eyed her thoughtfully. ââ¬Å"I am the deputy director of operations.â⬠A weary smile crept across his face. ââ¬Å"And besides, I'm not alone. I've got Susan Fletcher on my team.â⬠In that instant, Susan realized what she respected so much about Trevor Strathmore. For ten years, through thick and thin, he had always led the way for her. Steadfast. Unwavering. It was his dedication that amazed her-his unshakable allegiance to his principles, his country, and his ideals.
