Americaââ¬â¢s foundation was constructed on the ideal of freedom, whether that be religious, political, or individual freedom. U.S. citizens have very strong feelings about their independence and will do almost anything to protect their rights from being taken away. During the 1950s Americans were afraid that their freedom was going to be threatened and taken away by the communist style of government. The Soviet Union and America were both trying to win control on a global scale, but with the USSR being communist the paranoia of a socialism takeover was heightened. Americans were so fearful of communism that it became known as the Red Scare. All over the country people were being accused of being communist spies and federal employees were being interrogated, the U.S. was in full panic mode. The United States was so fearful of the USSR being able to gather more communist allies and take over that the U.S. stepped in militarily to protect South Korea from North Koreaââ¬â¢s commun ist invasion. This battle for dominance between the nations was named the Cold War. I believe that this war was justified because there were clear threats towards the United States and their capitalist ideals. Companies have to be conservative in their resources in order to survive competition and to make themselves sustainable. The challenge these organizations face also coincides with the future of labor unions. As mentioned by Errol Black and Jim Silver, the unions will have a difficult time to keep their egalitarian ideals in the face of rapid economic growth and technological change. Pressures are evident in the workplace, thus labor unions have to reinvent strategies to battle off problems like unemployment, downsizing and crises in management. One particular paradigm shift that companies are tackling right now is reducing work hours to create more yet temporary jobs to unemployed people (OHara, 1993). This may result to lower paying and non-permanent jobs, but this is seen as somehow a win-win situation for both the working masses and the company. However, unions are still considered as a factor of economic change for the company and to the rest of the labor force. The insights and skills of the workers still hold as the organizations biggest asset. Labor unions play a promising role to the labor scene. However, there are two propositions that Graham Lowe stated in his book, The Quality of Work: A People Centered Agenda that will keep the labor unions prosper and workers can enjoy a meaningful job amidst the changes in the economy: (1) job quality must be defined along side a wide range of dimensions and (2) the quality of jobs. Lowe, as a sociologist himself, believes that improving job quality will lessen turnovers and promote productivity, thus, giving the company in the better light. Critics may have attacked this idea, but it made sense in the view of management that truly productivity of workers has a direct positive payoff to organizations. Successes of companies and labor workers depend on how both sides cope up with the changing environment. As Peter Drucker puts it, it is the time to do what is for the future precisely since everything is in flux. Unions must have innovative strategies and must also continue to empower its worker-members to have a voice in decision making to balance the overpowering management ideals. Our nation views all situations as a competition and, in some cases, goes to extremely deceitful lengths to protect the possibility of failure. All tasks assigned to Americans are assumed to be easy and conducted with concurring enthusiasm; however, when it becomes arduous, frustration overcomes us and we look for the first available quick-fix. Now that the task was completed-with the minimal amount of effort-we sit back and relax, because we are at ease with our accomplishment, and our result becomes the standard. This course of action appears prevalent in all American endeavors, especially in our national education system. Americas educational system began like all of the other American endeavors, assumed to be easy, and conducted with simple enthusiasm. Formal education in America did not really begin until the end of The Great Depression (1939) and was a direct result of the New Deal legislation of President Franklin D. Roosevelt (1933-1945). Early educators of the system followed the principles of strict classroom discipline and high performance standards, which had a direct reflection on the youth of that early generation. Early students were well mannered and able to contribute a lot to the nation when they entered the workforce. Nevertheless, as the times changed-technologically and socially-the standards and results started to fall, causing much frustration among the system facilitators. In turn, the facilitators looked for that quick fix and they found it in the souls of the American citizens. Their fix was not a fix at all; instead, an illusion masking the failure of the system. In my leadership group, one woman in particular uses the word in almost every one of her communications. Sometimes I find myself responding: ââ¬Å"I get your intention. And what ACTION are you going to take on that intention?â⬠Intention is important and can be a huge motivator. But without action to follow it up, intention is just a nice thought. Telling my friend I intend to spend more time with her this year is actually hurtful if I donââ¬â¢t do it. Telling myself I intend to lose 5 pounds wonââ¬â¢t get me far if I eat a box of cookies every day. As entrepreneur and author John Maxwell says in a recent interview about his book Intentional Living: Choosing a Life That Matters, ââ¬Å"No one has ever been successful with good intentions alone. There has to be action.â⬠I set out in 2015 with an intention to accomplish many things- my new yearââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"Ressaylutions.â⬠Hereââ¬â¢s the list and how I did: Roll out a new ââ¬Å"responsiveâ⬠(mobile-friendly) website.â⬠¨ Goal achieved! TheEssayExpert.com has launched in its new form and is mobile-friendly! I have a new home page as well which launched just last week and is almost the way I want it! Implement Infusionsoft.â⬠¨ Goal achieved. My e-lists are now on Infusionsoft, as are our client communication and tracking system. I also had some personal challenges that slowed things down over the summer and fall, but business picked back up nicely at the end of the year. Iââ¬â¢m keeping this goal for 2016. Publish a print version of How to Write a KILLER LinkedIn Profile.â⬠¨ Done! Yay! Next step is to market the book. Implement a robust referral program. This project has been on hold with all the activity around Infusionsoft and my website, but people who refer paying clients to The Essay Expert can expect a gift from us! And Iââ¬â¢m going to look at making the program more consistent in 2016. Increase college essay / personal statement portion of my business to 25% of business. â⬠¨I uppedà my number of admissions consulting clients from last year, but still have not reached this goal. The deaf students who suffer complete hearing should be given an interpreter who should also act as their mentor. This will also b oost their morale and social cohesion in the class. Thirdly, these students in my class should be given or provided with academic advising services that will help them make the right career choice in life. This will play a major role in ensuring that their future is secured. Access and support services should also be provided to them to ensure that they are not stigmatized for being different to others in life. Stigmatization can be done by the provision of mentors in life. Real time captioning should also be provided. Captioning can be done through articulate use of visual aids such as projector to show images where it should be left for enough time for the students to understand the meaning. Classroom participation and involvement should also be encouraged. Participation will also enable the teacher to identify the areas in which the student has problems. Some social considerations need to be made in order for the deaf students to feel socially considered. This can be done by enco uraging participation in classroom activities as well as extra and co-curricular activities. They should also be involved in decisions making in the class since they are members of that class. Members of the class should also be taught how to relate with deaf students. Being a student, I have had an experience with one deaf students in my class. The student had a hard time catching up with the dictation in class. most of the times, the deaf student had to
